Answer:

On the day of Judgment, men/women will ultimately be judged by Allah according to their actions in this world. One can succeed in keeping his/her hypocrisy concealed but only until the Day of Judgment and cannot be spared from the wrath and punishment of the Almighty.

A strong belief in the Hereafter strongly influences our life and actions in this world. The view that the death is the end of every thing implies that there is no after life and consequently no final accountability, puts him/her on the brink. This approach negates the faith in Allah, belief in His guidance and finality of the prophethood. The faith in God and the fear of hereafter are complementary to each other. Why should one not make the best of one‘s life and enjoy it to the full as per his/her heart‘s content and desires? It is only due to the belief and fear of the Hereafter where he/she would be rewarded according to his deeds in the world.

It is for this reason that the Quran regards belief in the Hereafter as the culminating point of the true faith. How far a person‘s faith is firmly rooted in his heart and how far he is prepared to discipline and purify his life is determined by the extent of his fear of final accountability. Allah Himself says:

"And lo! those who believe not in the Hereafter are indeed astray from the path." (Quran: 23:74).

The pagans and the unbelievers made all types of demands on Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) questioning whether if he is the messenger of God. One of those demands has been specifically referred to in the Holy Quran:

"Nay, but everyone of them desired that he should be given open pages from Allah" (74:52). The Quran itself dismisses this demand as a brazen faced rejection of the Hereafter. Allah says in this regard.

"Nay, verily they fear not the Hereafter" (74:53).

The importance accorded to the concept of the Hereafter can well be judged from the fact that while succinctly recounting His major attributes in the first chapter entitled Sura-e-Al Fateh, Allah has made a specific mention of one i.e. The "Master of the Day of Doom".

Belief in the Quran is made dependent upon belief in the Unseen, performing the obligatory prayers and expending what Allah has provided him. Along with these requisites of the true faith is mentioned the belief in the Hereafter. The Quran lays the maximum emphasis on the fact that the man‘s life in this world is transitory and for a limited period.

"And ye will be brought back to the Knower of the invisible and the visible and He will tell you what you used to do. (9:105).

And man is told in unequivocal terms that on the Day of Judgment there will be total reckoning of one‘s doings in this worldly life. "Lo! unto Us is their return, and Ours their reckoning." (88:25, 26).

This proclamation implies that man/woman will be rewarded what he/she has earned.

"And that his/her efforts will be seen and afterwards he/she will be repaid for it with fullest payment. (53:40,41). On that day no intercession will succeed nor will any one be able to plead on behalf of another person. If anyone is harbouring the vain hope that he might escape punishment is suffering from delusions. And the verdict pronounced on The Day of Reckoning will be eternal.

"This is the Day of Immortality," points out Quran. (50:34).

When believers think of the Day of Judgment, the ignominy of greed and avarice get extinguished within us, the high edifice of pride and arrogance crumbles down.. The impulse to deal unevenly or to exploit others vanishes automatically and he/she shivers at the very thought of accountability.

The process of self-reckoning starts and he/she becomes alert as to what he/she intends to do is right or wrong in the eyes of God. His thoughts, behaviour and manners will closely manifest that he earnestly believes that after death he will have to appear before the lord and be answerable for his/her deeds in the world.
