From the given lines of the poem "The Tale of Custard The Dragon" by Ogden Nash, it is clear that Custard, the dragon was very meek, submissive and friendly.

While Belinda's other three pets - kitten, mouse and dog were brave, the dragon was not and yet it was there in a cage.

The cage looked very dangerous and to make the dragon laugh, Belinda tickled it.

The dragon had sharp teeth, spikes and scales yet it was a harmless poor creature.

Custard the Dragon was big and strong but he was always afraid of everything and preferred to remain in a cage where is felt safe .Belinda found this very funny. her other pets were

small but Fearless so she found it very amusing when custard always looked out for the cage and she tickled him unmercifully to make fun of him
