● Coke as reducing agent -
- Coke (C) is good reducing agent as it combines with oxygen to form gaseous non-metallic oxides mostly at high temperature.
- The metal oxide is mixed with coke and heated in a huge furnace.
- Coke reduces metal oxide to metals
E.g. ZnO + C --> Zn + CO
- This method is used for extraction of zinc, iron, lead & copper.
