or, y = 15 - x .......A

3x - y = 1

or, 3x - (15 - x) = 1 [ putting the value of y from equation A ]

or, 3x - 15 + x = 1

or, 4x = 16

or, x = 16/4

or, x = 4

thus, y = 15 - 4 = 11 [ putting the value of x in equation A ]
