Ben appreciates grandfather saying it's a good thing he did . Later he calls him as a "drunken old better ". Why does he change his opinion about grandfather. Refer in the context of "The dear departed" ?

Ben changed his opinion about grandfather when he came to know that grandfather didnot pay his premium as he is doubtful of getting his share of money.

The statement made by Ben shows his greed. First, when it was assumed that grandfather payed his premium, Ben was really happy as he would get a part of it. Later it was learned that grandfather had'nt paid it. Ben realized his intenetions were crushed and thus calls him a "druken old..."
