Benedict's test is used to test for reducing sugars, or, more specifically, glucose. If glucose is present once Benedict's reagent is added to the sample and boiled, the sample will turn from blue to green, yellow, orange, or brick red depending on the amount of glucose present. More glucose causes it to turn brick-red.
