Answer:

Benzamide can be converted to Benzylamine using C) LiAlH4

Explanation:

  • Benzamide is a white solid with chemical formula of C₆H₅CNH₂. It is an amide derivative of benzoic acid. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in many organic solvents.
  • LiAlH₄ is a strong reducing agent capable of reducing aldehydes ,esters, ketones, carboxylic acids, amides etc.
  • The step by step conversion of Benzamide to Benzylamine(C₆H₅CH₂NH₂) is as follows:-

         1.  LiAlH₄ is a strong reducing agent. It reduces the carbonyl group   into corresponding saturated system by the addition of hydrogen atoms and removal of the oxygen atom.

        2. The compound so formed is heated in the presence of dry ether. The hydride ion in LiAlH₄ is very basic making LiAlH₄ react very violently with water and so is used in dry solvents.
