When benzene ( C_{6}H_{6} ) is treated with neopentyl chloride and AlCl_{3} , 2-Methyl-2-phenylbutane is formed .

  • Positive charge is more stable on three-degree carbon than one degree carbon.
  • In this reaction , the positive charge is shifted from one-degree carbon to three-degree carbon for forming the product.
  • The molecular weight of  2-Methyl-2-phenylbutane is 148.245 .
