Structurally, the only difference between salicylic acid and benzoic acid is the presence of the hydroxy (-OH) group ortho to the carboxyl group. The more acidic molecule is the one with a more stable conjugate base. The H+ leaving will leave a negative charge, which in both cases is stabilized by resonance structures distributing the charge to the two oxygen atoms.

In salicylic acid, electron donating OH group is present at ortho position of the ring with respect to carboxyl group, which destabilises the carboxylate anion. And secondly it is evident from Ka and pKa values that benzoic acid ,with low pKa value than salicylic acid,is more acidic

Answer:

Explanation:salicylic acid is stronger than benzoic acid due to intramolecular hydrogen bonding present in salicylic acid which stabilises the conjugate base but it is absent in benzoic acid thats it if u want to give any reward to me please contact me 9047981830
