The products will dependent pretty much upon the concentration of chlorine available for reaction. In case chlorine and the methyl benzene are present in 1:1 ratio then the reaction will give a majority product of mono chlorinated methyl benzene. If present in intermediate amounts due to the free radical halogenation reaction being a continuous process, a mixture of mono, di and tri halogenated product will be formed. If chlorine is excess then the product will be trichloromethylbenzene.
