➖ The shake flask method is used for a small-scale production of biotechnological products in a laboratory.

➖ On the other hand, stirred tank bioreactors are used for a large-scale production of biotechnology products.

➖ Stirred tank bioreactors have several advantages over shake flasks:

(1) Small volumes of culture can be taken out from the reactor for sampling or testing.

(2) It has a foam breaker for regulating the foam.

(3) It has a control system that regulates the temperature and pH

Stirred tank type of bioreactors :

1. Apart from providing good properties of aeration and mixing, this kind of bioreactors possesses various systems which helps a lot in the process. These systems includes -

i) The system of agitator.

ii) The system of delivering oxygen.

iii) System of controlling foams.

iv) System of controlling temperature.

v) System of controlling pH.

vi) Presence of sampling ports.

The presence of all these systems makes the stirred tank bioreactors the better one than the shake flasks.
