Because between two points displacement can be negative or 0 but, distance is always positive.
And we know that,
Displacement is the shortest route of distance. Distance can be linear, circular or wave. Displacement is always straight line as it is a vector.

hey mate distance can nver less than displacement bcz displacement is shotest path b/w initial and final position .and can be -ve but distance cant
