BF3 acts as a lewis acid while CCl4 cannot do so. give reason.​

Hey mate here is your answer ☺️✌️

In BF3 the boron is surrounded by three fluorine atoms ......the covalency of boron is 4 and since it is surrounded by only 3 fluorine atoms so it's electron deficient and requires one more atom to combine with .....and as we know that Lewis acids are those acids which are electron deficient so BF3 is a Lewis acid

while in CCl4 the maximum covalency ( which is the maximum number of atoms with which it could combine) is 4 and also it is surrounded by 4 chlorine atoms and thus it's covalency is fulfilled and doesn't require more atoms to combine with...thus it's not electron deficient so not Lewis Acid
