Geography, on the one hand, makes use of the knowledge gained from the other series of sciences to the extent that it helps in the review of events and analyzes and the proper coordination of their relations as possible. On the other hand, the knowledge obtained from other sciences, which is used by geography, has many etymological assumptions and prescribed classifications. If these concepts and classifications are not useful for geographical purposes, then geography has to develop its own etymological notions and systems of classification. Therefore, geography helps in the growth of human knowledge in three ways:

(1) Studying the earth as a human habitation by analyzing the facts obtained from the sciences.

(2) Gives an opportunity to examine the facts underlying the notions developed by other sciences, because geography can make use of those notions at a particular place.

(3) It provides its specific background in the formulation of public or private policies, on the basis of which the explanation of problems is convenient.

After this, Herodotus and the Roman scholars Strabo and Claudius Ptolemy gave a historical form to geography.
