When a place belongs to a continent, but is geographically separate and smaller in comparison, it’s called a subcontinent.

In the case of India, it is called a subcontinent because of its landmass as it is not a big region and the cause is separation of it between other countries.

India hangs in between being a part of the Indian subcontinent and the SAARC countries.
