राजनीति विज्ञान अध्ययन का एक विस्तृत विषय या क्षेत्र है। राजनीति विज्ञान में ये तमाम बातें शामिल हैं: राजनीतिक चिंतन, राजनीतिक सिद्धान्त, राजनीतिक दर्शन, राजनीतिक विचारधारा, संस्थागत या संरचनागत ढांचा, तुलनात्मक राजनीति, लोक प्रशासन, अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कानून और संगठन आदि।

The sources of Indian political thought are as follows;

1. The Vedas:

The Vedas are perceived as the most authoritative works of Deities during the time when the world was created hence acknowledged the fundamental source of political knowledge. However, Vedas do not define the administrative arrangement which is been followed in modern times, but the vital erudition can be extracted from its theories like Ruler, Kingship, Philanthropists and their obligations towards their society.

The Arthashastra:

This masterpiece which is instituted by Kautilya acts as the treasure on the republican system of India. in the words of Prof Altekar, it is essentially involved with the functional predicaments of administration and explains its machinery and functions both in circumstances of battle and reconciliation.
