Let the amount invested at 10% = x

The amount invested at 12% = 12000 - x

Interest earned:

10% x + 12%(12000 - x) = 1280

10x + 12(12000 - x) = 128000

10x + 144000 - 12x = 128000

10x - 12x = 128000 - 144000

-2x = -16000

x = 8000

Rs. 8000 is invested at 10%

Rs. 4000 is invested at 12%

Given :

  • Bhagwanti inherited Rs.12000.
  • She invested a part of it as 10% and the rest as 12% in a bank
  • Her annual income from these investments is Rs. 1280

To find :

  • How much did she invest at each rate
  • What values are shown by her

Solution :

So by the problem

= x x 10% + (12000 - x) x 12%

= 1280

= 12000 x 12% - x x 2%

= 1280

= 12000 x 12 - x x 2 -128000

= 2x = 144000 - 128000

= x = 16000/2

= x = Rs.8000

= 12000-8000

= y = Rs.4000

∴ Rs.8000 was invested 10% and Rs. 4000 was invested 12%.
