3. A shopkeeper lists his goods in such a way that after allowing a discount of 20%, he
gains 52%. How much per cent above the C.P. is the list price of his goods?​

let CP of goods=x rs

he gain 52% on goods

we know, gain

%=(SP-CP)/CP×100=52

(SP-x)/x ×100=52

sp-x/x = 52/100=13/25

cross multiply,

25sp-25x=13x

25 SP = 38x

SP =38x/25

he sold goods at 38x/25rs

he gives discount of 20%

let he list rate as y rs

20% of y= 20y/100=y/5

after discount amount = y-y/5=4y/5

we know it is equal to SP =38x/25

so ,38x/25=4y/5

y=19x/10

difference between list price and CP= y-x=19x/10 -x = 9x/10

percentage= (9x/10)100/x = 90%
