In India the per capita consumption of steel is quite low because of the following reasons:

1. Poor Infrastructure: As India is still a developing country the infrastructure in India to produce steel is not good.

2. Almost 70% of India’s population lives in villages where the demand of steel is still very low. Most of the houses are still ‘katcha houses’ that does not require any steel. And most of the villagers are still dependent on the natural resources available around them.

3. Poor means of Transport: The condition of roads is also poor in India in most of the remote parts of India. So to carry steel to those areas becomes very difficult.

4. The resources required to produce steel are not available in abundant.

5. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Steel, the per capita consumption of steel in India is 68 kg which very low as compared to the world average of 208kg.
