Answer:

Bharat borrowed Rs 15,000 from bank.

Explanation:

Bharat borrowed Rs 20,000 partially from a friend and bank.

Let us suppose he borrowed Rs x from friend.

Rest will borrowed from bank = Rs (20,000 - x)

Both are on simple interest.

\text{Formula of Simple Interest }=\frac{P\times R\times t}{100}

Friend:

  • Principle = Rs x
  • Time = 2 years
  • Rate = 12%
  • Simple Interest = ?

Using simple interest formula to calculate interest paid to his friend.

I_{Friend}=x \times 0.12\times 2 \Rightarrow 0.24x

Bank:

  • Principle = Rs (20,000-x)
  • Time = 2 years
  • Rate = 15%
  • Simple Interest = ?

Using simple interest formula to calculate interest paid to bank

I_{Bank}=(20000-x) \times 0.15\times 2 \Rightarrow 0.3(20000-x)

Paid back amount = Rs 25,700 and Borrowed amount = Rs 20,000

Total interest paid by Bharat = 25,700 - 20,000 = Rs 5,700

I_{Friend}+I_{Bank}=5700

0.24x+0.3(20000-x)=5700

0.24x+6000-0.3x=5700

-0.06x=-300

x=5,000

Amount borrowed from friend = Rs 5,000

Amount borrowed from Bank =  20,000 - 5,000 = Rs 15,000

Thus, Bharat borrowed Rs 15,000 from bank.
