Bholi was a neglected child as she wasnt given enough attention as her brothers and sisters. Bholi was also considered to be "intellectually inferior" and "not good looking", which were probably the worst qualities a person could have at that time.

Ever since she was well after her prolonged sickness period, she wasn't treated well because of her pock marks. She was often degraded by her parents as well.

In those years, girls weren't allowed to have a say in marriage. Bholi was no exception. She was forced to marry a person who was older than her and on the only reason why she was married was that the groom was wealthy.
