Problems of the big dams are as follows -

• Production cost : The production costs of these dams are enormous and such investments in initial stage, are often not beneficial in terms of future productivities. (Eg. Multiple river projects - hydroelectric production, irrigation system, fish harvesting etc.)

• Risks : When we are obstructing enormous amount of water with such big dams we are also taking risks of major floods,if there is slightest problem in the construction work of the dam.

• Environmental damage : We know that ecosystems have their own balances in our environment. And if we block large rivers and other water bodies, then it is obvious that many ecosystems will be affected.

And many more.
