big paragrah on when i was caught sleeping in class

Patrick Geller, a science teacher at Cypress Bay High School in Weston, was caught sleeping at his desk by his own students. You know kids nowadays, quick to yank out cell phones and snap pictures and share them with the world. The photo evidence ended up in the hands of school administrators who were none too pleased.
Apparently the teacher pointed a finger at his own baby, who kept him up the night before.
Geller’s snooze cost him big. Two-day suspension. No pay. I think someone even took his apple.
Administrators told Sun Sentinel reporter Karen Yi that Geller failed to supervise his students and disrupted learning in the classroom. They charged him with misconduct and incompetence.
Serious stuff. Seriously.
And it appears this is not Geller’s first offense. He has an alleged history of playing games on his own cell phone, during class. And problems with attendance.
Two days off to think about his bad behavior seems reasonable. And he has a chance to redeem himself.
His students deserve congratulations for catching him in the act. After all, as was pointed out so well in Cameron Crowe’s classic film Fast Times at Ridgemont High, time in class belongs to everybody. You remember when character Jeff Spicoli ordered pizza delivered to himself in class, and his teacher, Mr. Hand, objected. And Spicoli responded: “I’ve been thinking about this, Mr. Hand. If I'm here and you're here, doesn't that make it our time? Certainly, there's nothing wrong with a little feast on our time.”
Geller should catch this movie on Netflix. It’s a good one and he has the time.
I also think our science teacher is guilty of another big offense. Never blame your kid for your own mistakes.
Not a good lesson.
