Bijan babu has made phenyl water solution of 60 litres in which the ratio of measurements
of phenyl and water is 2:23. Find out how much phenyl should be added to this
solution so that the ratio of measurements of phenyl and water becomes 9:46.

Answer:

6 litre

Step-by-step explanation:

Phenyl : water = 2x : 23x

6 litre phenyl water solution

phenyl \:  =  \frac{60}{25}   \times 2 = 4.8 \: liter

water \:  =  \frac{60}{25}  \times 23 = 55.2 \: litre

Phenyl : water = 4.8 : 55.2

x litre of phenyl is added and the ratio becomes 9:46

 \frac{phenyl}{water}  =  \frac{4.8 + x}{55.2}  =  \frac{9}{46}

x =  \frac{55.2 \times 9 - 4.8 \times 46}{46}  = 6 \: litre

6 litre phenyl solution is added

(or)

4.8 : 55.2

only the phenyl is added

55.2 remained unchanged. hence in new ratio 9:46. 46 x is 55.2

55.2/46 * 9 = 10.8 litre

in final solution phenyl is 10.8 litre.

phenyl added = 10.8 - 4.8 = 6 litres
