Given info : biker travelling at 44 m/s passes a motorcycle police man at rest at the side of the road the policeman accelerates at 3.26 m/s².

To find : how long does it take the police man to catch the biker ?

solution : let after t sec, policeman catches the biker.

distance travelled by the biker, s = speed × time = 44t

distance travelled by the policeman, s = ut + 1/2 at² = 0 × t + 1/2 × 3.26 × t²

= 1.63t²

To catch the biker,

distance travelled by the biker = distance travelled the policeman

⇒44t = 1.63t²

⇒t = 44/1.63 = 27 sec

Therefore the policemen catches the biker after 27sec.
