BY PYTHAGORAS THEOREM

i) PS^2 = PQ^2 + QS^2

17^2 = 12^2 + QS^2

289 = 144 + QS^2

289 - 144 = QS^2

QS^2 = 145

QS = √144

ii) QS^2 = QR^2 + RS^2

(√144)^2 = 9^2 + RS^2

144 = 81 + RS^2

144- 81 = RS2

RS^2 = 64

RS = +/- 8

But, length can not be negative

RS = 8
