Definition:-

The minimum amount of energy required for a satellite to escape from earth's gravitational influence is called as Binding Energy of a satellite.

Mathematically :-

It is given by

Binding Energy = GMm/2r

Where, G is Gravitational Constant

M is mass of earth

m is mass of satellite

r is radius of orbit i.e. Radius of earth + height at which satellite is orbiting the earth.

This expression gives Binding Energy of Satellite at a height h. Binding Energy of a satellite at rest on the surface of earth is given by

Binding Energy = GMm/R

Where, G, M, m are same labels as above

And R is now Radius of earth.
