Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee (born 21 February 1961) is an Indian-born American economist, who is the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Banerjee shared the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer, "for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty."He along with his wife Esther Duflo are the sixth married couple to jointly win a Nobel Prize.

His son with first wife Dr. Arundhati Tuli Banarjee died in 2016 and he has two children with his current wife Esther. After winning the Nobel Prize, he also visited India and gave a speech in some seminars, including his alma mater Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.
