• An Indian Gandhian environmentalist, Chandi Prasad Bhatt is a social activist. He is regarded as one of India's earliest environmentalists of the contemporary era. In Gopeshwar, he established the Dasholi Gram Swarajya Sangh (DGSS), which went on to serve as the mother organisation of the renowned Chipko Movement.
• Sunita Narain, an Indian environmentalist and political activist who was born in 1961, has been a strong supporter of the Green idea of sustainable development.
• Narain is the Society for Environmental Communications' director, the editor of the biweekly magazine Down To Earth, and the director general of the Centre for Science and Environment's research institute in India.
• Last but not least, Sunderlal Bahuguna, who is 92 years old, is one of the oldest environmentalists alive today. He is a supporter of Mahatma Gandhi's Satyagraha and Non-violence philosophies and was the founder of the well-known Chipko movement. He is a true hero who has dedicated his entire life to the defence of the Himalayan woods. In the 1970s, he initially belonged to the Chipko movement.
• Later, he took part in the 1980s-era Anti-Tehri Dam agitation, which came to a conclusion in early 2004. On January 26, 2009, he received the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour in India.
