Meghnad Saha FRS (6 October 1893 – 16 February 1956) was an Indian astrophysicist who gained global prominence for his development of the Saha Ionization Equation, used to describe chemical and physical conditions in stars.[1][2] Cecilia Payne was the first scientist to accurately relate the spectral classes of stars to their actual temperatures by applying the ionization theory developed by Indian physicist Meghnad Saha.[3] He was repeatedly nominated for the Nobel Prize in Physics by Arthur Compton, Debendra Mohan Bose and Sisir Kumar Mitra. Saha was a dedicated humanitarian who became politically active to devote himself for the people of the newly independent India, which was facing a post-partition crisis. He was elected to the Parliament of India in 1952.[
