Roots absorb water & minerals from the soil, while leaves take in oxygen & carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. & out of the cell by the process of diffusion. The concentration of water in the cell sap of the root hair is lower than that of the surrounding soil. This makes absorption of water by osmosis possible.
