6. Epidermis is present on the outer surface of the whole plant body. The cells of the epidermal tissue form a continuous layer without any intercellular space. It performs the following important functions:-

1. Cells of epidermis are water resistant thus prevent excess loss of water.

2. It is a protective tissue which protect the plant body

.

3. It allows exchange of gases through the stomata.

7. Transportation of food and water takes place through xylem and phloem in the plants. The water from the roots is transported through xylem. Phloem on other hand transports the food prepared in the leaves to other parts of the plants. This is the major form of transportation and translocation.
