Biology HW
Define the following with an example
1. Parasitic nutrition
2. Symbiosis
3. Autotrophic
Answers
Parasitic Nutrition: This mode of nutrition is the characteristic of parasites. The parasites live on of inside the body of their hosts. So, the parasites are dependent either wholly of partially on the host for nutrition e.g., plasmodium, liver flukes, Cuscuta, Ascaris etc. There are two types of parasitic plants.

This is found on the roots of potato, tomato and brinjal plant.

Saprophytic nutrition: In this mode of nutrition, the organisms feed on the dead decaying organic matter. Organisms like fungi(yeasts, moulds, mushrooms) and many bacteria take dissolved decaying organic materials from their environment. The organism releases some enzymes to digest the dead organic food and then the nutrients are absorbed through the body surface.

Answer:
Parasitic nutrition: It is that nutrition in which an organism derives its food from the body of another living organism (called its host) without killing it.
- Example: Plasmodium and round worms obtain food by parasitic nutrition.
️️
Symbiosis: In symbiosis both the interacting species are benefitted. The symbiotic relationship between an anemone (Heteractis magnifica) and a clownfish (Amphiron ocellaris) .
- The most fascinating example is found in plant-animal relationships. Plants need the help of animals for pollinating their flowers and dispersing their seeds. Animals are paid in the form of juicy and nutritious fruits.
️️
Autotrophic nutrition is a process in which the organism produces their food from the simple inorganic materials such as water, carbon dioxide and mineral salts in the presence of sunlight.
- Plants such as blue-green algae and cyanobacteria could be considered as some examples of autotrophic nutrition.
