Task

1 Link each cell part with the correct function. (6 marks)

Cell membrane Controls all the activities of the cell.
Chloroplast Controls what goes in and out of the cell.
Vacuole Filled with cell sap. Keeps the cell rigid to support the plant.
Nucleus Absorbs light energy to make food by photosynthesis.
Cell Wall A liquid gel in which most of the chemical reactions needed
for life take place.
Cytoplasm Made of cellulose, strengthens the cell and gives it support.

The hand ache was oh-so-real during yesterday's [May 15 2019] AQA Biology exam, after GCSE students were faced with an exam which seemingly contained questions on a number of topics they were convinced wouldn't come up. It's like AQA Psychology 2018 all over again.

Biology students across the country took to Twitter to share their reactions to the paper, with loads of people shading the exam board for leaving out questions on food tests, diseases, animal and plant cells.

Instead, AQA filled the paper with questions about surface area, axolotl (side note: ?), beta blockers and nitrate ions. The general consensus wasn't good:
