Humpy Koneru was born to Koneru Ashok and Mrs Latha Ashok, on 31 March 1987 in Vijayawada. Her parents originally named her "Hampi" which is derived from the word "champion". Later her father changed the spelling to Humpy, which a Russian-sounding name.
She is an Indian chess grandmaster. She became the second female player, the first being Judit Polgar, who exceeded 2600 Elo rating mark, in October 2007. She was rated 2606.
Koneru was the youngest woman to achieve the title of grandmaster in 2002. She achieved this honour at the age of 15 years, 1 month, 27 days, and beat Judit Polgár's mark by three months. Later this record was broken in 2008 by Hou Yifan.
She married Dasari Anvesh in August 2014. She currently works with ONGC Ltd.

Koneru Humpy was born in Gudivada, near Vijaywada, in Andhra Pradesh on March 31, 1987. She started playing chess when she was 5 years old. Her father, Mr. Koneru Ashok acquainted her with the game. He was also her first coach. She won four World Championships at a very early stage. She won the World Girl Under 10, the World Girls Under 12, the World Girls Under 14 and World Girls Junior Championships. She acquired her IM title in 1999 and in May 2002, She achieved her 3rd GM Norms in Elekes Memorial Grandmaster Tournament in Budapest.
