In the poem 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the ancient mariner commits a crime against nature by shooting the albatross with his cross-bow and killing it without any rhyme or reason.

Due to the heinous act committed by the ancient mariner, the sailors had to face many difficult circumstances like being stuck in the silent sea, extreme heat and the scarcity of drinking water.
