Both the air sacs and the air bladders give the bird and the fish buoyancy to fly/float in air and water respectively. Hence it is an important feature for them as, without it, the bird may fall from the sky and the fish would drown.

Additional air sacs in birds not only make their body lighter but also act as a second lung which help them to keep their body oxygenated incase when their is low level of oxygen in the surrounding atmosphere.
Air bladder in fishes is of pretty importance. It make them light that helps in swiming. Fish maintain their level in water with the help of air bladder. They inflate the bladder to move upward whereas deflates to go downward without wasting much energy.
Both of these adaptation in this two species performs a key role in their survival.
