Birds in an Exhibition
Answers
Answer:
Bird Paradises
The increase in the representation of birds in jewelry from the late 19th century onwards echoes the penchant for decorative naturalism, then highly popular in interior decoration. Many of the naturaliacollections developed by natural history enthusiasts at that time featured artistic montages, displaying specimens known as "bird paradises" (in French “paradis d’oiseaux”).
This trend was symptomatic of a taste for romance, curiosity and travel, and was inspired by the growing knowledge of birds disseminated in richly illustrated ornithological publications. In turn, jewelry demonstrated an increasingly sophisticated view of ornithological diversity, morphology and behavior, allowing the creations to reveal a certain stylistic audacity while remaining faithful to the bird’s appearance and beauty.
The Exhibition
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey between heaven and earth, recreating the abundance of birds typically found in artistic depictions of paradise. It presents a number of iconic bird brooches created among others by Baugrand, Cartier, Mauboussin, Mellerio, Rouvenat, Sterlé and Van Cleef & Arpels, as well as works from prestigious public collections representing birds on land, perched on branches and in flight, through the media of painting, drawing, engraving and ceramics.
The selected pieces offer visitors an insight into jewelry creation and the arts in general, highlighting the artist’s work around the representation of the bird’s body, plumage and movement, at once naturalistic and stylized, alternating between a faithful depiction of nature and formal audacity, realism and symbolism.

☛ Last Sunday, an exhibition on birds was held in our locality at Salt Lake. It is a very famous exhibition that is organized every year in the month of December. I attended the exhibition with my parents.
The exhibition started from 11 a.m. in the morning. It was held in the Salt Lake Stadium. One part of the ground was surrounded with barricade made of tin. The ground was decorated with colourful lights. Many stalls were set up for displaying the birds. These stalls were made of wooden frames.
The main attraction of the exhibition was our Chief Minister. She came and cut the ribbon in the opening ceremony. There were many species of birds. Birds like sparrows, parrots, kakatua, pigeon and many more were kept there for display. It was also quite interesting and exciting to see many colourful birds of other countries in the exhibition.
It was a winter afternoon and people came and crowded the place. They were moving from one stall to another. Some of them were buying birds, some were only watching and some people were busy bargaining with the bird sellers. The children were the most excited lot among all the visitors. They were so thrilled that they were running all over the ground. They were very happy to see so many colourful birds together. It was very nice to see and hear the talking parrots. A bird trainer was controlling the parrots. Many small children crowded that stall.
In one corner of the ground, magic show and puppet show were organized. On the opposite side there were many food stalls. Food and snacks of different types was being sold there. Children were mostly buying ice-creams and popcorns.
Many people were seen carrying cages in their hands on their way home. It was truly a nice exhibition to visit. This exhibition is becoming more and more popular every year. I liked the birds very much but I did not like to see them caged!.
