Birds of the same kind generally live together. Crows fly together with crows. Pigeons fly together with pigeons. In the same way, men of the same nature like to live together. A saint generally lives with other saints. A thief likes the company of thieves. Scientists prefer to live with other scientists. Poets like to be with other poets. Thus we can know about the nature of a person from the company he lives in. A thief is ill at ease in the company of saints. A poet is unhappy with the company of illiterate people. If a boy always be in the company of good boys we may guess that he, too, is a good boy.

hey...
Meaning: The famous saying, “birds of a feather flock together”, means, “people of similar character or with similar habits and interests accompany each other.”
It means that “people tend to form groups and spend plentiful time with people who resemble them and are much alike them, or have similar tastes, traits and moral qualities.”
Birds of a feather here means similar birds, i.e., birds which are alike, or of the same species. So, the phrase literally means, birds that belong to the same species will form a flock together. Nevertheless, this proverb is metaphorical: it is not literally referring to birds, but to people.
