The Birla Planetarium in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, is a single-storeyed circular structure that is designed in the typical Indian style, whose architecture is loosely styled on the Buddhist Stupa at Sanchi.

As per the updated schedule, d
aily programs are conducted in English, Bengali and Hindi from 12:00 to 19:00 hrs.

The show timing is as follows:

Mon to Sat - 12.30 PM HINDI, 1.30 PM ENGLISH, 2.30 PM HINDI, 3.30 PM BENGALI, 4.30 PM HINDI, 5.30 PM BENGALI, 6.30 PM ENGLISH and two extra show on Sunday and Holiday is 10.30 AM HINDI, 11.30 AM BENGALI.

Programs are occasionally conducted in Oriya, Tamil, and Gujarati, as well. Extra shows are arranged on holidays.

Birla Planetarium or Taramandal in Kolkata is one of the 3 Birla Planetariums in India. It is the second largest planetarium in the world and the largest planetarium in Asia. It is located on Chowringhee Road next to the Victoria Memorial.

It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on 2nd July 1963. Along with the astronomical laboratories it has an electronics and fabrication lab. Its astronomy gallery has paintings and models of famous astronomers.

The planetarium has a capacity of 680. Every year it offers more than 100 projects to the students and general public in the field of astronomy and astrophysics. Daily programs are conducted in Bangla, Hindi and English. Sometimes Gujarati, Oriya and other languages are also used. There are extra shows on holidays. It is open between 12 pm to 7 pm.
