• Black soil is very fine and clayey soil which helps the crops to grow by holding water and maintains moisture content. When dry season, the soil loses its moisture content hence it develops cracks and breaks but in the rainy season, it holds water and becomes sticky.
• Black soil covers mostly all areas of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat and scarcely in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
• Cotton, oilseeds, tobacco, linseed, wheat, millets are grown in Black soil, since these crops need lot of water content. The minerals found in Black soil are magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, lime and potash.
• The other name for this soil is Black cotton soil or regur soil.
