The influence of black money on politics and elections can only be brought about through political reforms. The leadership of the political parties must bring in changes from within. The watchdogs in the system should be the Lokpals and the Lokayuktas. Over all this, the Election Commission should be more vigilant in ensuring that the system is cleansed of black money.

According to studies, the 2014 general election is likely to be the most expensive election in Indian history, with a massive Rs. 30,000 crores being spent by the government, political parties and candidates. As numerous loopholes and lack of transparency mar the current election finance system in India, candidates and parties are able to raise and spend money without making any declarations as to the sources. There is a need to take comprehensive steps and corroborate financial information received for both parties and candidates from various sources, in order to ensure transparency and accountability in raising and spending money,
