Dear friend,
EXPLANATION :-
Bleaching powder which is Calcium oxychloride (CaOCl2). It is manufactured by passing chlorine gas over slaked lime. It is a yellowish white powder which when exposed to the air produces strong chlorine gas. This is because the bleaching powder which when reacts with the carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere produces calcium carbonate which evolution of chlorine gas. Chlorine also acts as a bleaching agent.
REACTION :-
CaOCl2 + CO2 → CaCO3 + Cl2
Hope it helps !!!
