Block A in the figure has a mass of 1 kg and block B has a
mass of 2 kg. The blocks are forced together compressing a
massless spring between them and the system is released from
rest on a level frictionless surface. The spring is not fastened to
either of the blocks, when spring regains its natural length,
block B acquired a speed of 0.5 m/s. How much potential
energy was stored in the compressed spring?

Answer:

0.75

m1v1=m2v2

1×v1= 2×0.5

V1 =1

_1_ ×(m1v1² +m2v2²) = 0.75
