Block A of mass 4 kg and block B of mass 6 kg are resting on a horizontal surface as shown in the
figure. There is no friction between the block B and the horizontal surface. The coefficient of friction
between the blocks is 0.2. If the value of g = 10 ms? , the maximum horizontal foce F that can be
applied on block B without any relative motion between A and B is
A

Answer:

20  N

ExplanatFriction between the blocks f = µmg = .2 × 4 × 10 = 8 N                  For 6 kg block F – f = 6a                                                                                         F = 6a + 8 ...(i)                                                                                                        For 4 kg block f = 4a 8 = 4a                                                                                      a = 2m/s2 ...(ii)                                                                                                           blocks have no relative motion so there acceleration will be same.          Putting the value of  'a' from eq. (i) to (ii)                                                             F = 6 × 2 + 8 = 20N
