Block of mass 10 kg is moving on inclined plane with constant velocity 10 m/s. The coefficient of kinetic friction

Block of mass 10 kg is moving on inclined plane with constant velocity 10 m/s. The coefficient of kinetic frictionbetween incline plane and block is....

solution : mass of block, m = 10kg

velocity of block, v = 10m/s

component of weight along plane = mgsin37°

and component of weight perpendicular to plane = mgcos37°

since, block is moving on inclined plane, a kinetic friction acting just opposite to its motion.

at equilibrium,

component of weight along plane = kinetic friction

or, mgsin37° = u N [ N is normal reaction acting on block due to plane and u is coefficient of kinetic friction ]

or, mgsin37° = u mgcos37°

or, u = tan37° = 3/4

hence, coefficient of kinetic friction is 4/3.

Answer: coefficient of friction is 0.75.

Explanation: tan theta = coefficient of kinetic friction

Tan 37° = 3/4

= 0.75
