Blood passes through the heart before making one complete circuit in the body. Blood passes twice through the heart to complete its one complete circuit. It has to undergo two circuits one is the pulmonary circuit and the other systemic circuit in order to complete its one complete circuit.
Deoxygenated blood from the upper and the lower regions of the body enters the heart through from superior and inferior venecava, into the right atrium of the heart . The right atrium contracts and the blood is passed through the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve. When the right ventricle is full, it contracts and passes the deoxygenated blood into two pulmonary arteries which carry the blood to the lungs for oxygenation. After oxygenation, the oxygenated blood is carried by pulmonary veins back to the heart. The oxygenated blood again enters the heart through he left atrium. When the left atrium contracts, the oxygenated blood moves from left atrium to left ventricle through bicuspid valve. From the left ventricle the blood moves into aorta which is carried to the other parts of the body. This completes one complete circuit of the blood. In this whole process blood enters twice into the heart.

Blood passes through heart twice in one complete circuit because firstly the deoxygenated blood is pumped to the lungs for collecting oxygen and then is sent back to the heart to be pumped to all other body parts and complete one circuit.
