calcium carbonate + water + carbon dioxide → calcium bicarbonate

CaCO3(s)+H2O(l)+CO2(g)→Ca(HCO3)2(aq)

The calcium bicarbonate produced is far more water-soluble, so the milky colour disappears as it dissolves.
