Bo and Erica are yoga instructors. Between the two of them, they teach 41 yoga classes each week. If Erica teaches 10 fewer than twice as many as Bo, how many classes does each instructor teach per week?
Answers
Erica = y
X + y = 41
Y = 2x - 10
X + 2x - 10 = 41
3x -10 =41
3x = 51
X = 17
Y= 2*17 -10
Y = 24
Given :
Total no of classes in a week Bo and Erica teaches together = 41
No of classes by Erica is 10 fewer than twice as many as by Bo.
To Find :
No of classes taught by each instructor per week = ??
Solution :
Let no of classes taught by Bo each week be = 'x'
And no of classes by Eric each week = 'y'
Since it is given that total no of classes per week by both together is 41 , so ;
x + y = 41 -(1)
So, according to the question an equation representing relation between no of classes by Bo and Eric can be written as :
y =2x - 10 -(2)
Substituting the value of y from eq (2) in eq (1) to eliminate y ,we get 'x' as :
x + 2x - 10 = 41
Or , 3x = 51
Or, x = 17
Now putting the so obtained value of x in eq (1) to get value of y :
17 + y = 41
Or , y = 41 - 17
Or , y = 24
So, no of classes by Bo per week = x = 27 ,
And no of classes by Eric per week = y = 14
