Because boron valency is 3 and oxygen valency is 2.so, by criss-cross method. The formula of borate is BO3. But sulphur has variable valencies ie - 2,+2,+4,+6. So, the formula of sulphate is SO4 and the formula of sulphite is SO3.

siri12: brilliant question
LuciFer111111: tnks for answering
LuciFer111111: but in bo3 valency of boron should be 6. As oxygen valency is 2
